Blue Jays Organizational Rosters: Dunedin Blue Jays

Revisiting our opening day roster predictions and comparing with the current roster

Here’s what my opening day roster predictions were for the DJays (with notes on where I went wrong and where the player actually ended up):

C: Danny Jansen

1B: Juan Kelly

2B: John La Prise          x DL

3B: Matt Dean

SS: Lourdes Gurriel Jr         x DL

LF: Jonathan Davis           x AA

CF D.J Davis

RF Derrick Loveless

DH Mitch Nay            x DL

Bench:

C Mike Reeves

INF Aaron Attaway        x released

OF David Harris            x released

2B Gunnar Heidt             x AA

Starters:

SP Ryan Borucki

SP Jon Harris            x AA

SP Francisco Rios        x AA

SP Angel Perdomo

SP Chris Rowley       x AA

Relievers:

RP Kender Villegas

RP Jose Fernandez      x AA

RP Conor Fisk

RP Dusty Isaacs          x AA

RP Carlos Ramirez      x AA

RP Alonzo Gonzalez     x AA

RP Adonys Cardona

That adds up to a 11/25 score. As I noted in my Lugnuts reflection, the low score is mostly explained by DL stints at this level and the three levels above. There were three injured for Dunedin and ten between AA, AAA and the Blue Jays.

I didn’t see room for Brad Allen on the roster and sure enough, he was released.

Here’s who was actually on the opening day roster for the Dunedin Blue Jays (and, for my mistakes, where I thought those players would appear):

C: Danny Jansen

1B: Juan Kelly

2B: Cavan Biggio           A

3B: Matt Dean

SS: J.C Cardenas             A

LF: Lane Thomas            A

CF D.J Davis

RF Derrick Loveless

DH Max Pentecost           AA

Bench:

C Mike Reeves

INF Deiferson Barreto       A-

OF Connor Panas           A

OF Andrew Guillotte          A

Starters:

SP Ryan Borucki

SP T.J Zeuch       A

SP Jordan Romano        A

SP Angel Perdomo

SP Josh deGraaf           A

Relievers:

RP Kender Villegas

RP Justin Shafer         A

RP Conor Fisk

RP Tom Robson          A

RP Andrew Case           A

RP Ryan Cook              A

RP Adonys Cardona

DL:
INF John La Prise

INF Mitch Nay

INF Lourdes Gurriel

Dunedin has made a few changes since opening day. RP Jared Carkuff was called up from extended spring briefly and has been replaced by RP Daniel Young. Correspondingly, Barreto was sent down briefly, recalled and now Pentecost has been assigned to the Vancouver Canadians.

Dunedin is off to a decent 2-2 start (at time of writing).
